THE LATE PETER BARRY IMBERGER
To all Peter’s Friends,
You may be aware that Peter passed away at Domain Kirra Beach nursing home, Tuesday evening 3rd July, & efforts were made to contact as many of his friends as possible about the sad news.
His funeral service was held last week on Tuesday 10th July at Tweed Heads (& a copy of the funeral ‘booklet’ is enclosed for your information, for those who did not/could not attend).
A formal tribute to Peter was prepared, & read, by a former Whitebridge High School student, & as well as this, many other excellent tributes were received, which came in (via email ) from his many family, school, theatre, health care & travel friends he has made over his lifetime.
The latter tributes were read out by family & ex student representatives. A couple of personal tributes were then made by Doug Gam & Les Peterkin at the service.

A copy of his funeral notice, which appeared in the Saturday 7th July edition of the Sydney Morning Herald, has been copied onto the last page of the tribute.
The service concluded with a ‘PowerPoint’ slide presentation (of about 100 photos) of Peter in costume, over a forty year period, which we had scanned from his many ‘scrapbooks’ he had prepared of his theatrical productions.
The funeral was attended by almost forty people & the atmosphere varied from ‘teary’ to ‘joyous laughter’ as we celebrated the life of a wonderful & very special man. Clearly we could not help but run over the normal time allocated for funeral services!
We accessed Peter’s ‘Christmas letter’ address list to get the contact details of as many of his friends as possible, so as to provide this communiqué to everyone we possibly can (the list contained over 120 entries!).
Sorry to be the bearer of such sad tidings, but we have all been privileged to know Peter, and are thankful that his sufferings & frustrations of recent times are now over.
Also included in this package are some ‘recent’ photos (in chronological order) of Peter, including:-
- My toasting him with a beer on an infrequent visit (by him) back to his home at ‘The Manors’ Alexander Court, Tweed Heads South.
- A relaxed pose of him sitting in his room at the Domain Kirra Beach nursing home.
- Changing back into some dry clothes (& lapping up the attention!) after getting drenched on his way over from the nursing home to the nearby Meridian Towers holiday units, where we were staying.
- Celebrating his 78th birthday with Whitebridge High School ‘kids’, exactly one week early - on April Fools Day.
